I've been using the same PC for quite a while with no problem. p41.7GHz win xp . . .

had a power outage the other day and the cd, dvd, floppy and zip drives are not readable in 'my computer' any more. Usually gives me a message like "drive not recoginzed format" sometimes asks me if i want to format the disk sometimes not. when i browse (double-click) the disk a new window open but nothing is displayed. except for when i boot into windows with a disk in one of the drives then i can read it until i remove it.

in disk management the drives are recognized just fine but i still can't explore the disks.

drives are good (tested in another PC). cables are good. motherboard was replaced. new power supply. ????

any thoughts?

Make sure your cmos settings are correct and remove the hardware in the device manager and let windows rediscover it.
