Dear All,
I have recently had a problem with a Dell Optiplex where when I boot up the system it will detect the mouse and keyboard and then come up with:
Drive not detected
press F1 to continue and F2 to enter setup.

If I then enter Setup and set the Hard Disk to Auto and then press Escape it will then sometimes boot up normally or it will come up with:
Invalid Disk (blah blah blah)
or just sit there doing nothing.
If I then press Ctrl+Alt+Delete it will reboot and get to the same point again and when I F2 and enter the Bios and alter the Disk info to Usr1 or Usr2 and fill in the Cylinders Heads and Sectors and then press escape it will sometimes boot normally.
Sometimes I have put in a larger disk (2.5MB) (I have several) and if it is larger than about 850MB it will return to a value of around 663(or thereabouts) Cylinders as soon as I Tab out of the Cylinder field.
Sometimes it will Boot from the first appearance of the Warning if I press F1 and sometimes when I go back into the Bios after one turn around (Boot then reboot) the Clock is slow!
The Date however is right unless I remove the Bios battery and then it returns to 1997.
It is a Dell Optiplex GS 2133 with a Phoenix Bios version: 1.10 A03 and the only info (thanks to Google) that I have, is that it is not Leap year compliant but I don't think that is the problem.
I would appreciate any help as I have even put all the parts into another case (different motherboard) and the same thing!
I am trying to get another battery at the moment (I tried several that may have been low) but as the date stays the same (the computer is switched on between attempts) I am at the end of my tether...
Thanks in advance
(and STARS afterwards) for any useful advice...
;-)

Regards Jim

Have you tried a new battery? It sounds like there is not enough juice in the battery to maintain the settings after it is re-booted or powered off.
