Hi Everyone,

We have several network shares. Instead of using a generic mapping, I would like to setup a mapping based on department. Does anyone have an efficient/automated way to map drives by department, possible through an AD structure?

Also, any good suggestions on login scripting best practices?

Thanks,

Jackson

You can use group policy to assign login scripts, and the application of the policy can be controlled based on group membership, or you could create a different OU for each department and apply a different policy to each OU. Many ways to do it. Depends on what you're comfortable with.

Get a DFSroot installed on your domain. Put DFS targets in there for all shares. Ensure that all sharing permissions are correct.

Put a link to the DFSroot into their profile somewhere. No need for antiquated drive mappings.

Take a look at Markdmac's logon script it will allow you to achieve many options at logon including mapping printers and drives by group membership.
