I have one user that logs into a NT 4 server to do 99% of the work and logs into a novell 4.11 server to get groupwise messages. The problem is both servers maps the X drive.I tried to tell the novell client not to run the script at login so when the user logs in none of the drives map but one and it is still mapped to the X drive.I also tried taking the user out of the group that associated with the way the group gets mapped but no luck. Is there a way to have these two work together. The workstation is using win98 SE,Novell client 3.1. Thanks

There may be a static mapping on the workstation that is forcing the mapped drive. 98, ME, NT and NT2k all have this ability to map a drive even if the container script is not run.

There aer a couple of things you can do here. One is to install the MS client on the workstation and designate it as the login and cancel the novell one when prompted?

Another option is to change the drive mapping of the nt server by using the net use command in a batch file and rtunning it from the Novell container script.
example NET USE Drive:\Path\PATH

Final option would be to map the NT server's drive to a different letter.

the command is Please verify the drive and path setting with an Microsoft resource..

If you are using the NetWare server just to get Groupwise email, why are you logging in?

If the postoffice is setup to use tcpip, then cut out the NetWare login and setup the Groupwise client to use tcpip only.

I rarely if at all use direct user access to the groupwise database. The less people with direct access the better I feel.

a somewhat related question....i've recently started working in the industry and find myself with a novell and NT server. The NT server has a mapping to the Novell server's SYS\System directory. NT is running gateway for novell but no client. I've looked for the script but can't seem to locate it. Can someone tell me how exactly this mapping is set up?

Guys you are making good points but at this time the network is only running IPX.We will be making the change to tcpip soon when we setup the internet but that's going to be a couple of months away and you know how some users get when they have to do an extra step.

If there is no script it will run default login script. Maybe this is why it is mapping to sys:system. You can try putting something inb the users login script, anything at all even just map display off. If something exists in it it will not run default login script. The default script is hardcoded into login.
