Changing from NT4 to WIN2K by deleting NT partition and installing WIN2K to the unused space resulted in the previous Data Partition (Allocated letter 'E' under NT4) being changed to drive letter 'D'. The Data partition isn't and has never been a system or boot drive.
We can change the CD drive letter but cannot change the Data drive letter. Can anyone help.
Being on a network we can of course simply map the drive to 'E' but this is not possible when the unit is disconnected from a network.

What's the partition structure? (eg, is it 2 primary partitions with 2k on the first, data on the second, or a primary for 2k and extended for data. Are there any other partitions?) How did you do the partition delete & win2k install (eg, did you delete the partition before starting the 2k install or use 2k install's tools to do it?)

I'm using Win2000 Professional edition
I have 40 GB drive , 1 partition is NTFS

I have all my data on this partition
Once i changed the drive letter i cannot access this partition now
it says this drive is not formatted
the other partition on the same drive are working fine

How can i recover the data on that partition

please help me

tsprasanna,

Can you give a bit more detail please. 1 partition is NTFS - what's the other (presume there are 2). Also, is this data partition the second partition? and is it a primary or extended partition?
How was it created (win2000 disk management tools?)
How did you change drive letter (win2000 disk management tools?) - can't you change it back using same tools.
Have you got a copy of Partition Magic?
