I have just used DriveImage 2002 to copy my 27gb Fujitsu hardrive onto a new Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 80gb drive.

Now, although BIOS recognises the drive as 80gb, everywhere in Win XP Pro such as Control Panel, Hardware Devices etc shows it as a 27gb drive.

How do I get Win XP Pro to recognise it as it's true 80gb capacity??

Many thanks

The problem you are seeing is due to the Drive Copy Image that was written. You asked it to copy your 27GB partition and it did. You can right click my computer and go to Manage. Go into Disk Adminstrator and you will see the rest of the space. From here you can create a new partition or extend your current.

Thanks for that Comtec17.

How would I make the drive just one big C partition? I have tried the extended option but this is just giving me 2 partitions, one of which is not showing up under "properties"? Do I have to accept it as a separate partition and just assign it a drive letter?
I would much rather have one large C drive that includes the whole 80gb.

Thanks for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

I just tried to extend the drive by using Diskpart and it seems you cannot extend the current system or boot partition according to the Microsoft Win XP product documentation. Any extension can only occur on an NTFS formatted file system.

Does that mean I need to format as a separate partition?

You could always get Partition Magic and extend your current setup to the full 80gb. That or convert your current partition to NTFS then you should be able to extend it all as one drive (c:\)

Seach google for more options

Cheers

Pretty sure this is all doable within "DriveImage 2002" itself. (As we all know, being ducksoup on my machine proves nothing on yours!) Is this thread still active as of 06/19/03 14:59:23 ET?
