I have a weird problem with a couple of machines now. On a warm boot either one or all of the IDE drives connected disappear. When the machine is shutdown and then restarted everything is normal again... any ideas
It could be that you are detecting the drives on each bootup. Although this shouldnt be a problem I recall having a problem like this on an old 486.
Go into the BIOS, there you will have an option to detect hard drives. Run this so that the PC will not detect them on startup. Also double check the settings to make sure that all the IDEs are not set to auto.
What make and model is it? Fujitsu has had a problem with disapearing HD's due to faulty resin used on the Cirrus logic controller.
Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.
Is their any option in the bios for Quick Post/Fast Boot & Fast memory checking? If so disable them. (its possible the drives aren't spinning up/getting power in time).
Also are you using a good PSU?
