Greetings:

The "yellow lights" on my Netfinity 5000 drives are of major concern. I understand that this generally means that the drive is defunct but Hitachi, the manufacturer, recommends a drive fitness test. They say that each drive should be started outside of the RAID configuration but cannot say how this is done. I can just disconnect the RAID cable, boot up with the drive fitness diskette, then see what happens. I may not get the correct report if the setup is incorrect. Advice is sought.

Before running any vendor-recommended utilities (since the IBM-branded drives may not run the same firmware as the vendor-branded drives), I would recommend taking a look at the RAID logs from the Controller. If you are not at the current (IBM-version) of HDD firmware, consider going there first.
