hi, i am running win xp pro, have been for a few months. just noticed if i put a floppy in my floppy drive and double click on a drive, it wont read the disc, it just says that the disc is not formatted, would i like to format it now?
also i just went to upload some photos from my digital camera and the same thing happened. both of these devices were working fine before but appear to be working incorrectly now. is there a way i can repair a faulty instalation of xp pro? i know my floppy disc is fine, it works on my friends computer, as does my digital camera. im puzzled by it.

Does the device manager show the floppy drive as working properly?
If not it has troubleshooting and driver options.
Try going into the Device Manager and remove the floppy drive controller there. Reboot and let the system detect/reinstall the controller.

It is possible the floppy drive has just died and needs replacing.

Some other things to try.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
