Hi!

The Disaster recovery of BAB11.1 of a W2k3 Srv Std gives this error.

Do you have any idea what can be?

Thanks to all!

Hi,

Received >>> ORFEU2 NOVABASE arcbk

Looking at that entry on the DR.log it looks like DR is failing while trying to connect to the remote BAB server.

Please check the following..

1. Are you able to PING to and from the Recovery server and the BAB server?

2. Is the WINNT folder on the BAB server shared as ADMIN$

3. From the machine being recovered, open a command line and try to use NET USE * \\ORFEU2\ADMIN$ /USER:Novabase\arcbk

If this fails.. the credentials that were saved onto the Machine Specific Disk could be invalid.

Has the pwd for the arcbk account changed after the backup was done?

Is the machine being recovered a DHCP client?

Hi speshalyst!

Thanks for your post!

1. I ping the recovery server

2. Yes he has.

3. It works, he map the drive admin$ to the Z:\

The password didn't change. (I could map the drive)

4. Yes, is a DHCP client.

Thanks!

Hi,

08/23/05 11:40:28 [0000] Error in W2kDrNetStartNetworkServices

On the DR server.. can you do a "net start".. what services are listed?

Does the "workstation service" run ?

Hi,

Just a thought..
the server being recovered is a Windows 2003 server right?
are you performing an ASR ?
If yes,the driver for the NIC on the machine, should be available on the Windows 2003 CD.

If not you would need to modify the ASR.sif file on the machine specific disk to point to the correct location to load the proper drivers for the NIC.

The server being recoved have the Windows 2003 Server Standard.
And the BAB11.1 uses the ASR of windows to make the disater recover of W2k3 Server and XP.

The NIC was installed by windows, and i didn't change. So should be in the W2k3 CD. :(

Thanks!

Hi Mike,

All the services... are they running on the server being recovered? hmmm.. interesting..

And i see a whole bunch of CA services.. there should be no application related services active on the machine being recovered at this time of failure..

can you please confirm?

Looking at this - several things jump right out at me:

1 You are running r11.0, not r11.1 - and an unpatched version at that.

2 The debug shows a Windows 2000 Recovery not a Windows 2003 Recovery.

I'm hoping for you that this is a test and not an real DR. If it is a test - reinstall, patch up to r11.1 and the latest service/device patches - run your backup, create your floppy disk for use with your Win2003 OS CD, and then try to run the recovery again, otherwise I would suggest hand cranking it at this stage. The creation of the boot kit and recovery is significantly different between Win2k and Win2003 machines.

Hi!

The services i put yesterday was of the DR server, sorry.

The services active in the server being recovered are this:

Cryptographic Services
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Error Reporting Service
Event Log
Network Connections
Plug and Play
Print Spooler
Protected Storage
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Removable Storage
Security Accounts Manager
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Workstation

The DR Server have the version r11.1 (Build 3100), but i dont have the CD with the BAB11.1 only the BAB11.0, this maybe a problem to.

Yesterday i cant made the download of the latest version CD, because the page of the downloads in the CA site give error.
I'm dowloading now the CD.

This is a test but i have many Servers with this configuration, thats why im making tests.

I had already made the test with a W2k server and did OK.

I know that the process of recovery of W2k and W2k3 is diferent.

Im making the recovering of W2k3 like the manual says, with the machine specific disk ande the w2k3 CD, using the ASR option of w2k3 server.

Thanks!

Hi!

I use the BAB11.1 CD and it works just fine. :))))

Thanks to all for your help! :)

Glad to know that someone out there is also testing the Disaster Recovery Option for Windows.

I have several new Proliant DL380 and DL580 servers running Windows 2003 Standard. These r11.1 Clients are backup by a Windows 2003 Standard backup server with BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1 for Windows.

Instead of using the corporate LAN, a dedicate Gigabit Ethernet LAN was setup for routine backups and restores.

Strange thing about all the DR testings done so far is that the restoration has to go through the corporate LAN instead of the dedicated backup LAN. Unplugging the server (to be restored)from the corporate LAN would result in error such as that indicated in the title of this post.

The corporate LAN is 100 Mbps and it will take many hours to restore the entire server. So far, my workaround is to use the Disaster Recovery Option to restore only the C-drive through the corporate LAN, and once the server is up, then use the backup server to restore all other harddisk and system state through the dedicated backup LAN at 1000 Mbps speed.

1. Is there any way to force a disaster recovery of the entire server only via the dedicated backup LAN ?

2. Has anyone tried using the Disaster Recovery Option to restore to server of a different model (ie original is DL380, but replacement server is a DL580)?

HI,

HI,

Which is the 1st bound card on the servers?

On the Machine specific disk that you create, after a FULL backup, there would be a file called w2ktcpip_drf

OPen Regedt32
Highlight HKLM

Go to the Registry Menu and Choose "load Hive"
poin to the w2ktcpip_drf on the floppy
give a key name when prompted (could be anything)
once the file is loaded into the registry
Expand the key u created
you should see subkeys like 0,1,2 depending on the number of NICs on backed up.

delete the keys relating to the NIC card that you do not want to use.
Unload this hive

Now load the <machine_name>.drf file into the registry..
Change the Value of DRLocalComputerName to the IP you want to use instead of the machine name.
unload this hive

try a DR.
Hope this helps
