Hi there,

What in the world do i have to do to get rid of this problem? I looked up the server time, both the client and the server are in the US, (PDT) hour, minutes, seconds match but i still get this error. Any ideeas what to do?

Thanks alot,

hello

try this:

and google spits out:
"The problem lies in Dreamweavers Timestamp abilities, and a problem in DW to resolve time zones for computers it is connected to. Macromedia recommends this solution:
'Coordinate the system clock time of any computer that connects to the remote computer to the server's clock time. The hours can be different to reflect time zone differences, but the minutes should match.'
"
and also
"
Almost all these question regarding timestamp and server time, like this question, relates to how Dreamweaver sorts out the server time. All version of Dreamweaver (at least since version 3) creates a temporary folder on the same level ftp connects to. This folder is named 'XYIZNWSK'. Old versions of Dreamweaver will try to create this folder up to 20 times, which will explain very long time attempting to connect. Newer version of Dreamweaver tries this once.

If you have defined a folder on the remote that you don't have write permission to, you will not be able to determine server time. For example if you've defined the remote server to a upper level folder, and your site files belong in a subfolder like public_html, httpdocs, www, or similar, you will experience this problem. Solution: Take that exact folder name and put it in the "Host Directory" box of the remote info in the site definition. Adjust the local site folder down a level, if
needed. Now dreamweaver can write to the directory it logs into (create the temporary folder), and can determine the server time.
"

good luck with it

Hi,
Thanks, that helped but still doesn't work. I looked up the macromedia tips days ago but still no use. Here's what i get in my logs:

Aug 18 20:53:04 206-232-129-25 proftpd[2728]: 207.234.129.45 [225.111.167.170]) - FTP session opened.
Aug 18 20:53:04 206-232-129-25 PAM_pwdb[2728]: (ftp) session opened for user dexter by (uid=0)
Aug 18 20:54:53 206-232-129-25 proftpd[2728]: 207.234.129.45 [225.111.167.170]) - FTP session closed.
Aug 18 21:01:21 206-232-129-25 proftpd[2777]: 207.234.129.45 [225.111.167.170]) - FTP session opened.
Aug 18 21:01:21 206-232-129-25 PAM_pwdb[2777]: (ftp) session opened for user dexter by (uid=0)

I still get that pop-up message in dreamweaver that it could't determine the remote server time. Meantime, i have all permissions needed to create any directories so i don't see why DW could't as many directories as it wants. I also openned a ftp session, logged in and searched for the dir's you told me but no trace, even if it's temporary, i should be able to see it.
Any ideeas of what might the problem be ?
Thanks alot.

Hi frainbreeze

While that is a good question, some people cannot. Dreamweaver provides an excellent feature in their FTP - check-in/check-out - which is a great tool for working in a collaborative environment.

hello

LTeeple:

actually, i meant if he could use a separate ftp in this instance, as a regular ftp client might give more detailed error messages/codes that could help us figure out whats goin on instead of just "session open" and "session closed"

i.e.

As a matter a fact i've managed to solve the problem. On the remote server was a proftpd running and i changed it with a vsftpd. I changed pesmisions and it worked. Probably there was something wrong with that proftpd or i didn't know how to use it. Anyway, that's why i installed vsftpd because i know it very well.
Once again, thanks alot for your help.

Filezilla is an open source VERY good FTP tool better than the dreamweaver one IMO, if you experience trouble with DW again i urge you to try a program written for the job.
