Hi,

If I link an OS390 database to a NT/UDB database on a different version of DB2 what are the restrictions on the dialect of SQL that I can submit?
ie if I am on a NT box accessing a remote OS390 database using a three-part name, can I use a SQL function that exists only on NT/UDB?

Thanks,

Mike.

Mike,
I think it depends on where the query actually runs. In MS Access for instance you can link to the DB2 tables via ODBC where the SQL runs on the client, or you can define a 'passthru' query which, quite literally, is passed down to the server DB2 system, and is therefore run on the mainframe and subject to it's DB2 rules.

I think that if you are on an NT box in UDB and accessing the data via a three part name, the query is running on the NT box and therefore capable of using SQL functions that exist only on UDB (but I stand to be corrected)
