Hello,

I'm trying to re-draw the smooth swirls attached. I've traced the jpg using the pen tool in Illustrator - but if you scrutinize it*, you can see some of the lines aren't perfectly parallel.

Does anyone know a better way of doing it?

Many thanks,

Rachel

* really, really scrutinize it - I'm after perfection!

...due to the variables involved and the organic nature of the shape, a manual trace with pen tool will always have some deviation...

...the other (just as tricky if not more so) option is to use a tapered brush:

...this is also subject to variation, but is useful to know non the less...

...the third option is "live trace" if you want a higher accuracy rate, this method is also very quick:

...those three options are all you have, manual pen tool, tapered brush manually tweaked or live trace...

...i would try live trace, see how you get on.

...I forgot to mention vectormagic...

...in some cases this is a better tool than illustrators in-built function:

..depends on the subject matter though, as illustrator's in-built function can be more than adequate in most cases, but if you struggle with illustrators settings, then can be your best friend...

...good luck!
