Drawing Portraits

Can anyone refer me to an online source, or a book, that shows how to create portraits with Illustrator?

Wow, that's a very advanced ability.
I would hazzard a guess here that some of of the better operators here would struggle with something like this.

Have you looked at the program called Painter?

I've created a couple of portrait-like pieces using Illustrator, but like Marcus said, it's time consuming and a challenge. What I did was take a digital photo of the subject and placed that into Illustrator as a template and used that to start "drawing" the face. I had to use many blends/gradations to get good skin. If you are already good at drawing portraits in the tradition mediums, it should be easier.

Yeah, I believe this is a very difficult task.. I know how to do it in Photoshop, but would like to try it in Illustrator..

I will try to look Painter.. (Corel Painter I assume).
