Drawing narrow antialiased lines

Despite trying a whole lot of different settings combinations, I still haven't found any way to draw a narrow, 1px antialiased line in PSP X. Something like this is very elementary to do in pretty much any other program, and that's why I find it very odd not to be able to do it in this one.

This picture illustrates what I'm after (image scaled 4x):

The leftmost line is what I want to draw. 1px wide brush, with some antialiasing. PSP X, however, draws the centermost line when I set the brush size to 1, and antialiasing on. Increasing the brush size to 2 produces the horribly wide line on the right.

Would I really need to make a custom brush to draw narrow lines, or would even that work?

PSP's brushes are a mess when it comes to antialias.

For drawing the line you want you should make a custom brush out of a perfectly round and antialiased circle (made with Preset Shapes).

OR

You could use the Pen tool which gives you more control over the line properties.
