When I draw in illustrator using either the brush or the pencil and go back over or near the line I'm drawing, it makes something completely different out of it. Is there something I can turn off or what?

Thanks.

Tang:

There is, indeed, something you can turn off.

1. Double-click the pencil or brush tool in the toolbar;

2. In the dialog box that comes up, fiddle with the settings the arrow is pointing at (better yet, fiddle with ALL the settings and see what they can do):

Many of the tools have dialog boxes that pop up on double-clicking.
