Hi, I am trying to find a solution to this problem but i suspect it may be un-doable. Any bright ideas would be appreciated though!

My problem stems from the need to upload multiple files at once to the web server (that is withouth multiple input fields). Now I understand that this would be possible apart from you cannot select multiple files in the standard Browse box which appears.

Therefore i was attempting to come up with a solution whereby users could drag and drop multiple files directly from the desktop in their browser window. Then i was going to use javascript to populate multiple form fields and upload the files as usual.

I cannot get any information from the drop source when dragged from the desktop. This could of course be impossible - only i was watching a document management softawre demo the other day where they were able to do just that - drag and drop multiple files from the desktop into the browser window.

They "claimed" that their system needed no additions or installations on the client machine and just needed the latest version of i.e. to run.

Am i chasing the holy grail here or can this sort of thing actually be done? If so, any ideas how?

If all you need to do is upload multiple files at the same time, check out this Java applet.

Hope This Helps!

Did you find a solution to this ? I have a similar problem

No, sorry I never came across a solution. I don't think its possible, unfortunately, because even our £100,000 document management system can't do it, and it can do pretty much everything else. Let me know if you figure out a solution.

Best wishes

I would imagine it is possible using FTP, as then the browser window effectively becomes an explorer window, and drag and drop is then automatically functional. What I was trying to achieve was a javascript(or similar) powered drag and drop directly from the desktop into a browser page, without requiring the need for an ftp server...
