Running AS2000 SP4 on Win2k SP2 against Exch55 SP4 on Win2k SP2. Anyone have any problems with only certain mailboxes having the DRAFTS folder backed up during a brick level?

About 3 weeks ago we lost our IS and I had to restore from brick-level. One user apparently used her DRAFTS folder to store several years' worth of messages and her DRAFTS folder is missing when I expand her mailbox in the restore window.

Is there any way to find a CAT file or something for that folder on the tape and merge it?

HI,

First... are you sure the drafts folder was backed up for this user???

if yes .. under...

HKLM\Software\CA\ARCserveIT\base\Task\Merge
Note: if u do not have the "Merge" key... create it with a blank class...
now.. add a new value under the merge key

DonotUseCatalogMerge

Set DonotUseCatalogMerge:REG_DWORD:1 (TRUE) to disable the use of catalog files. The default is 0 (FALSE).

now you dont have to look for a CAT file to merge....
this will merge in everything on the tape lookin at the file headers...

I know that most every user doesn't bother to use DRAFTS except this one, and that she had years of info stored there.

My brick-level backup selection was solid green, so I was not selectively choosing mailboxes to backup.

After making the REG changes above I re-merged the session and still don't see a DRAFT folder for that user but do see it for 99% of the others...

Any other thoughts?

HI,...

Wel.. the only other option is to scan the tape with
"log all activity" selecetd in the job options...

this will show you if that info was actually backed up to media

Yep, logging the scan shows a DRAFT folder for every other user except this one.... peculiar.

Of course this is the only person who actually cares about her DRAFTS being restored, I am very curious why it is not being backed up. Perhaps the size of the thing?

Hmm..

HI...

what is the size of this Drafts folder....

anyways...

it was not backed up for some odd reason...
the only way to get it back is to restore the IS to a recovery server ...

export the Drafts forlder into a .PST file and import it to the users original folder..

cheers

Unfortunately I do not know, the IS crashed a few weeks ago and our IS backup was VERY bad. I have been restoring from Brick Level since then and encountering a lot of deficits in Arcserve's Exchange agent.

This was just another of those pleasant "surprises", along with not getting back Calendar dates or contact email addresses for any of my 180 mailboxes.
