I have a PC with NT w/s sp6a and IE 6 installed. It has been working fine but when I turned on PC this morning it came up that it was missing the shlwapi.dll file. I copied this from another PC and also the wininet.dll file (as this was missing too). Now when I try to start IE I get a Dr watson error message:
Exception access violation (0x0000005) Address 0x70bdb001.

The PC is at a remote location and connects ADSL to the network via VPN.
The PC also now cannot connect to the network. This all happened after I installed a new PC in the location. That PC can connect to the internet.

Any clues?

As to your dll's, they have to be registered wit the system.

From the Windows Start Menu, run
RegSvr32 path\shlwapi.dll
and
RegSvr32 path\wininit.dll

Although before going through all of this I would consider removing the newer pc and then try it again, it sounds more like a network problem then a software problem.
