Hi,

I am trying to install SP2 for SQL 2000 on two identical
clustered servers running Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition,
SP6a. SQL 2000 has never had SP2 or SP1 applied.

When trying to install the service pack, I got an error
after typing in the virtual server name that the name was
not an instance. The name is valid and I was running the
install on the active node of the cluster.

Later, when I came back to the problem, I get a different
error altogether. After typing in the virtual server name,
I hit OK (or Next, whatever it is) and get the Dr. Watson
error that an application error has occured. This occurs in
_ins5575._mp.exe (the InstallShield module). The error
message is always the same with the same numbers (access
violation 0xc0000005 and address 0x42B8C0F9).

I have tried reapplying SP6a to both machines. I have 1.16
GB free on the drive. I have cleaned out the temp folder.
I have tried copying the service pack to the hard drive and
running it that way. I've tried disabling Dr. Watson. No
luck ...

Any help would be appreciated

thanks
