We are currently arguing over what DOS to use in our new Netware 6 servers.

Some like MSDOS6.22 because you can use other utilities, scandisk, etc.

Some like DRDOS because it comes with Novell and is easy to isntall.

Anyone have anything to add to help with "discussion" .

Thanks.

If you use MS DOS, then you are legally obligated to buy an MS DOS license. But since M$ doesn't sell DOS anymore, you can't do this (but they will still screw you if you ever get audited).

DR-DOS is free to use as your boot OS for NetWare. You can go to many many different DR-DOS sites and download free copies of the software. Any versions utiltites will work in any version, unlike MSDOS 6 tools that only work in MSDOS 6, not any other version of MSDOS, even version 6.22.

Every utiltiy M$ stole and added to MSDOS (scandisk was actually norton disk doctor) can be found in DRDOS as well (including the ones MS actualy wrote them selves). If not the same tool, an equivlant (and much better) tool can be found.

Novell does include a basic set of utilties you commonly need in the install CD. You pretty much just need fdisk once and edit every now and then. You may find scandisk usless because you have to down the server to DOS to run it and why down a server just to scan the DOS partition? NetWare just runs and runs and runs and runs.
