Hi guys,

I have a word file with 17 Mb of size. The file has some pictures attached. Is there any way of reducing its size quickly while keeping the images? I don´t know maybe there is some Option like the PDF has about reducing image quality.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any info and Cheers,
Sebastian

By the way, what i want is to work with the current Word Document that i already have. I know the image are less "heavy" if i do a Insert rather than copy paste, but as i said the idea is to work with file i have. I cannot go back and insert the images which other people did the copy-paste.

Thanks

Hi,

LINK the images. If multiple user, then consider putting the pix and document on a common server.

Hi Skip,

Thanks for the info! however i am sending the doc to a different country with FTP, no common server allowed in this issue.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Convert to a PDF or similar transportable format.

What version of Office are you using? Behind the scenes, Windows stores all clipboard data as text. When you paste from the clipboard, Office makes some assumptions about the format to use in the paste operation. I've had very good luck shrinking documents with embedded pictures by doing the following:

1. single-click the picture to select
2. ctrl-x to cut
3. Edit>Paste Special (you should get a list of possible format choices, choose JPG or some other compressed format.)

I've had some docs that were mostly pasted pictures that shrunk over 90% yet, on the screen and printer suffered no visible degradation.

Hi guys, thanks both for the good info!

Sorry, but no PDF, people need to be able to copy and text from it. PDF i think is not very good on selecting and copying text from it.

I have Office 2004 for Mac. That is a great tip! I will try it with Office for Mac to see if it available on this trick.

Cheers,
Sebastian

and when Paste Special, i do not get the JPG or compressed format as you can see in the picture.

it is in Spanish but i guess it is clear to understand...

That would be irrelevant even if it were true.

Enjoy,
Tony
