Downside to scp?

We had a customer stop supporting scp today. I don't understand why. They will only allow us to use sftp. Now we have hours and hours of re-scripting to do.

Do you know of a downside to scp (in comparison to sftp)?

Unlike SCP, for connection with an SFTP server you do not need access to shell
