Downloading mpeg movies

When I try downloading mpeg movies from a newsgroup which has multiple pieces the first file works ok (eg.1/10). When I download any other pieces (eg.2/10)of the movie it comes up as giberish on the screen and Outlook starts to "search for hyperlinks" and locks up my computer until its done. I have a copy of mastersplitter to join the segments if I could just get them to download properly. Do I need to reconfigure my Outlook express?
