Hi,

I'm using MS IE 6.0. with win98. something is wrong in my registry. Normally, if I klick on a link to a exe-file, a dialog shows up, asking me if I want to save the file or directly open it. Since a longer time, this dosn't work anymore. I klick on the link an MS IE tries to directly open the file (like a image oder a normal html-file). Where in the registry i can tell the IE, that he has to open exe-files outside of IE?

I hope, someone does understand my english and knows a solution.

Thanx

Steve,
Give this link a try:

Another way:
Re-Setting Internet Explorer to Save rather than Open Files Downloaded
Added 7/16/96

When you try and download a .EXE file with Internet Explorer, you are prompted to "Always ask before opening this type of file".

If you uncheck this box, the next time a EXE file is about to be downloaded, you will not be prompted and the file will automatically be opened. You also do not see the "Always ask..." box again so you can uncheck it.
To reset Internet Explorer back again:

Start Regedit
Go to Hkey_Classes_Root\exefile
Change the EditFlags value from d8 07 01 00 to d8 07 00 00

I'm having the same problem and changing that flag did not help. When I click on an exe/zip...etc. file, all i get is gibberish :

are you getting the "Always ask before opening this type of file" message?
