I PRESENTLY HAVE ADOBE PREMIER 4.2 ON MY MACHINE AND BOUGHT A COPY OF 5.0 (5.1 UPGRADE CAME WITH IT). DO I LOAD ON 5.0, THEN 5.1 AND THEN GO TO ADOBE TO FIND MY CAPTURE CARD? WHEN I GO TO ADOBE I CAN FIND MY CAPTURE CARD LISTED (MIRO DC30 PLUS), BUT WHAT DO I DO THEN. I GUESS I AM PARANOID ABOUT DOWNLOADING AND NOT SURE IF IT WILL WORK RIGHT. CAN ANYONE HELP?

Do paranoid need to shout! Caps is shouting!

Yes, the proper procedure would be to load 5.0, then 5.1, and there was even a 5.1c patch, that seemed to solve some problems with suddenly loosing files, in 5.0 & 5.1.
Guess you do know that 6.0 is out and available. Most posts on the Adobe forum now address that version... But in case you have troubles, you can always post there or here.
I have a different capture card... So I might not be able to help you out, but somebody else should.

If you install 5.x in a different folder than 4.2, you shouldn't have any problems going back to use 4.2, while you sort out possible problems with 5.x.
I just got rid of 5.0, but ran both versions smoothly for over a year.

Regards,

;-)

Thanks for the advice. My machine is not powerful enought to run 6.0 so that is why I am using 5.0 & 5.1. Loading it in a different folder was a great idea so I can play with one and still have the other. The downloading of drivers I just don't know how to do. Do I just click on the capture card I presently have and it's done or will it be more involved?

Did you install 5.x already?
If not, do it & see if you have any problems with operation.
If you do you can check Miro's site, for info:

And download the last drivers, if you need to:

This driver works with DC30 series on Windows 95/98/98SE/NT 4.0 and on Windows 2000. It supports Premiere 5.1c (users of 5.0 or 5.1 are recommended to update) and Premiere 4.2.

;-)

Thanks a lot...I loaded 5.0, then I loaded 5.1. I will see if the driver I already have works okay and if not do as you said. Guess I need to look for that Premier 5.1c patch first. Again I thank you! You put things in terms that are easy to understand!

OLDNEWBIE, I DOWNLOADED THE ADOBE 5.1C PATCH SUCCESSFULLY AND WHEN I PLAYED AROUND A LITTLE THINGS DIDN'T WORK SO GOOD. SO IF I WANT TO USE THIS VERSION I SHOULD PROBABLY DOWNLOAD NEW DRIVERS FROM THE SITE YOU POINTED OUT. ADOBE 4.2 WORKS WELL ENOUGH, IT'S JUST THAT I CAN PRINT TO VIDEO WITHOUT MAKING A MOVIE IN ADOBE 5.1 AND NOT USE UP AS MUCH SPACE OR TIME. MY QUESTION IS IF I DOWNLOAD THE NEW DRIVERS TO USE WITH ADOBE 5.1, AND WANT TO GO BACK AND USE ADOBE 4.2 WILL IT MESS THAT VERSION UP OR WILL THAT VERSION STILL HAVE THE OLD DRIVERS AVAILABLE? I'M A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER TRYING TO HELP OUT SOME PEOPLE WITH GRADUATION MOVIES OF THEIR KIDS SO I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE A VERSION WILL WORK OUT. I PROMISE TO NOT BOTHER YOU AGAIN. HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Shouting again!

There's allways a risk that the latest drivers could affect the operation of 4.2... Although as I posted above, the drivers are supposed to support 4.2.
Probably better to finish your current project with 4.2 as you are, and test the new drivers afterwards.
If you do take the risk, I'd make a backup of your 4.2 folder, including the present drivers, before you do so.
Hopefully the drivers would be in the same folder, if not you should try to find them to copy them (in the backup) so that you can reinstall them in case you need to.

Best of luck, and Happy Easter!

;-)
