I want to be able to put a Power Point Presentation for download onto my companies web site. The problem I'm getting is that when I click the link to download, it just opens up in IE without downloading. I already have a copy zipped and I would like to avoid having them right click and chose save as, although this will be my last resort if none of you good people can help. I will also want to do this with .PDF eventually and this does the same thing, opens in the browser.

Does this happen in Netscape or any other browser? funkymonk B-)

If you provide it in zipped (or some archived) format, then they should be able to just download it fine. I'm not sure if you can just download it straight in IE, just another example of the Microsoft Collective trying to make its software as 'user friendly' as possible. Do the same with the PDF. It might not compress any smaller, but your users should be able to download the files. The only problem is they will need some sort of program to un-compress them, but they're easy enough to get, just provide a link to Winzip's site or WinRar's.

Hi,
It will happen with either browser if the user has Acrobat installed. Otherwise it will download. Why is it opening a bad thing? It can be printed or saved right from there..
best of luck,

I already have a zipped version for download. The reason I want to also be able to download it un-zipped, in it's 'natural' state, is that some of the people that want to download it seem to always have problems opening the zipped version, or don't even know what win zip is. Not sure why they have loads of problems, I just want to make it as easy as possible for them. If I have it like it is, opening in the browser, I'm affraid this will cause even more confusion for the people that want it, and believe me, it will.

i think I will go for the 'right click and save target as (with explanation).

Cheers all. funkymonk B-)
