Hi

I have trouble downloading stuff using Netscape Comm 4.75 on Linux. This is what happens, when I download a file the screen switches to another blank netscape browser where it downloads the text garbage instead of the actual file itself. If you were to do a cat [filename] on a excutable and you get a spool of garbage thats kind of what I see on my screen when I try to download stuff. I'm not sure if its the browser or if there is some sore of bug in the operating system. If you have seen this before or heard of it please help me. THis is so annoying that I have to download it using windows98 burn the program on cd switch to linux and drop it off there.

Thanks

NO, no... there should never be a need to install Win98 just to download files.

It's true that Netscape under Linux seems to have trouble recognizing MIME type headers, so it wants to display binary downloads instead of downloading them. But you can override this simply by right-clicking on the link and choosing "Save Link As...".

Also, a much better way to download files under Linux/*nix is to use Lynx, which is much less likely to crash in the middle. Often you can just copy the link location from netscape and use a right mouse click to paste it into your Xterm window. Also, there is an incredibly useful little command-line utility called 'wget' that can download any file or whole linked website.
