I used one for a while but when I went to uninstall it because it seemed to be causing some problems, I found it wouldn't fully uninstall itself. Since then, the ability of a program to FULLY uninstall (including registry entries, .INFs, .INIs and all other files and folders it either added or modified)is my main criterion for allowing it on my machine. If I can't convince myself of this factor with some limited research, it doesn't get installed - period!
. Second criterion is whether it carries a load of spy/adware. Any that do (including the Cute series, e.g. Cute FTP, et al.) never see the light of my monitor.
. Check
for c-net reviews and user reviews of the DL managers. Tip - popularity of a piece of software isn't much of a factor in my selection process. For example, I won't run any M$ software except when absolutely necessary and I'll have my nose clothespinned and rubber gloves on when I do... ;-)
