Any file download from any website causes IE to lockup. Browsing websites is OK. Have to End Task to get out of it. This only occurs on xp sp1 computers. Downloads work ok on win98se machines.

Network is 5-user Netware 6.0 patched up-to-date. 2 xp workstations and 3 win98 machines. Internet connection is dsl with Linksys befsr11 router connected to network switch. Computers are running Novell Client 4.83 sp3. xp user level is Adminstrator. There are no client firewalls, only the firewall in the router. Antivirus is Symantec 9.0

I've tried going after the usual suspects. Updated IE, disabled the antivirus , changed the IE security level to medium, logged in as network admin.

I don'think it has anything to do with the network or router since the dowloads work on the win98 machines.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

have you tried another browser? firefox perhaps?

Upgrade the firmware on the befsr11. This is really much too small a router in terms of available RAM for your setting.
