When you click on a link that provides a file to download we get the familiar...

"Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer?"

Is there a way to suppress the "open" functionality?
Is it possible to do this in Netscape as well?

Along the same lines is there a way to prevent certain users from downloading and applying updates from Windows Update?

Well for your open/save when you are have the box open you should see a checkbox that says always do this. As for not letting certain users do updates that would be a permissions issue. If you have win2000 or XP you can make users log into the machine and set there rights so that they cannot install things.
