I think this can be considered common sense. But can anyone cite an article or thread that speaks about guidelines for the maximum size a file should be if it is made available for download over the internet???
Surely there is no maximum. If the file needs to be the size it is, then it's the size it is.
You can't have a PDF that's 5mb, for example, say "Oh, my limit is 4Mb - lose the last few pages of info"... or "Chop off the bottom 3rd of this picture - it's far too big".
Remember, the internet's getting pretty full now, so when IP6 is released they've agreed everyone will have a quota limit. Just make sure you don't go over your quota.
For those of you who think you may need to serve particularly large files (over your IP6 limit - as described by Manarth above) that will be over your allowed quota limit...
... send your name and site URL to the Internet Council - I heard they are thinking about instituting a program for [!]power users[/!] that will provide an unlimited quota (on application).
