Downloaded any xmms package I could find from fedora.us on a w2k pc because my adsl (sagem f@st 800) doesn't work with fedora.
xmms-crossfade-0.3.8-0.fdr.1.1.i386.rpm
xmms-flac-1.1.0-0.fdr.16.1.i386.rpm
xmms-modplug-2.05-0.fdr.1.1.i386.rpm
xmms-sid-0.7.4-0.fdr.3.1.i386.rpm
xmms-xosd-2.2.12-0.fdr.2.1.i386.rpm
when I run rpm *.rpm it complains about needing the following files

libsamplerate.so.0
libflac.so.4
libid3-3.8.so.3
libmodplug.so.0
libsidplay.so.1
libxosd.so.2
xosd = 0:2.2.12-0.fdr.2.1

I allways thought that rpm is there to make life simpler but any rpm I download seems to be incomplete (needing files that aren't there).

So I run rpm -iv --nodeps *.rpm and get no complaints but xmms still doesn't play mp3.

I don't know if up2date or yum is easyer (never could get Internet to work with fedora or redhat) but isn't there a way to just download the rpm's and install them?

I tried the following site to look what package contains the files needed

downloaded the following extra files and tried again:
flac-1.1.0-0.fdr.16.1.i386.rpm
flac-devel-1.1.0-0.fdr.16.1.i386.rpm
id3lib-3.8.3-0.fdr.9.1.i386.rpm
id3lib-devel-3.8.3-0.fdr.9.1.i386.rpm
id3-py-1.2-0.fdr.5.1.noarch.rpm
id3v2-0.1.11-0.fdr.1.1.i386.rpm
libmodplug-0.7-0.fdr.1.1.i386.rpm
libmodplug-devel-0.7-0.fdr.1.1.i386.rpm
libnet10-1.0.2a-0.fdr.5.1.i386.rpm
libsamplerate-0.1.2-1.1.fc1.dag.i386.rpm
libsidplay-1.36.57-0.fdr.4.1.i386.rpm
libsidplay-devel-1.36.57-0.fdr.4.1.i386.rpm
xosd-2.2.12-0.fdr.2.1.i386.rpm
xosd-devel-2.2.12-0.fdr.2.1.i386.rpm

sure enough that didn't help much the new messages are failed dependencies:
libsndfile.so.1
XFree86-devel

So, back to the Internet and look for these files.
And yes...
XFree86-devel needs fontconfig-devel >= 2.1

Is there a better way to do this (without beeing connected to the Internet just download the packages and install them)?

RedHat/Fedora doesn't ship xmms with mp3 support. On my FC3 box, I need the package xmms-mp3 to be installed. You can try 3rd party sites like freshrpms.net

Thanks for your reply.

I got the xmms from fedora.us the following site explains how to do it with yum and or up2date:

Allthough looking at the package it seems it's not the xmms-mp3 which I need, downoaded all the xmms files I could find here:

The thing is I can't use yum or up2date because the fedora pc cannot connect to the Internet.

I downloaded anything I could find on xmms from fedora.us on a w2k pc and tried to install it on the fedora machine.

My problem is that whenever I tried to install an rmp there is a never ending avelange of depencies.

I gave up on trying to install xmms and other programms mentioned on the howto site because I can't seem to download xmms and the dependencies (don't know the dependencies untill I try to install them).

Tried RPMBrowser to see on my w2k pc what dependencies need what dependencies need what dependencies .... but it crashes trying to read freetype-devel-2.1.4-5.i386.rpm
