If I upgrade our test/demo unit (IPO403) to 3.0, can it later be bounced back to 2.1.27?

I'd like to test 3.0 features but not be stuck in that rev. We have 2 other sites that will not be upgrading anytime soon to 3.0, and I may need our test unit back in 2.1.27 for feature testing and such.

Also if new units in the near future are shipped with 3.0, and it turns out to be too buggy, I'd like to be able to downgrade them to 2.1

Is there a tech sheet on downgrading the IPO version?

Would VM Pro fail to work if it sees a downgraded IPO installation?

thanks

Yes, it's no problem.

If you wan't to be 100% sure that it's done correctly, do the following to the 3.0 unit:

Clear the cfg with AT-X2, AT-X3, AT-X4
Remove the bin with AT-X

Now upload the 2.1(27) bin with a TFTP-server.
Now the 403 is a default 2.1(27)
If you have any expansion-units to downgrade, use the 2.1 upgrade wizard, it will work perfect.

IPGuru's FAQ about this is good reading!

1) File away a copy of the system's 2.1 config file before going to 3.0.

2) The only problem I've encountered is with the 2420 phones. 3.0 supports phone firmware upgrades for these, loading a .bin file from the Manager folder in much the same way as 4600 series phones do.

Unfortunately that 3.0 phone firmware isn't compatible with a 2.1 IP Office and the 2.1 IP Office can't downgrade the phone.

dont bother with the DTE port unless necessary
use upgrade wizard as normal but change the bin directory to one containing your V2.1 bins, you will have to manualy tick the box to downgrade.

once the "upgrade" has completed select file/advanced/erase config, to defalult the unit.

If necessarry you could roll the unit back all the way to V1.0!

Thanks for the recommendation of my FAQ, Nuggi

& yip I forgot the 24XX phones cant be down graded (I dont use them often)

oops! I didn't know the 2420 couldn't be downgraded. I "borrowed" a 2420 from our Multivantage demo area and put it on our V3 system! Hopefully the Multivantage should be able to upgrade to their revision of firmware!!

You should be okay IPOUK (AFAIK), its just the IPO2.1 that can't change the firmware up or down.

When is 3.0 going to be officially released, version 2.1-249601 is causing many headaches.

V3.0 Scheduled for GA around the end of march, 26th I think

If yu are using V2.1-249601 I would recommend upgrading to V2.1(27).
Field trials of V3.0 are looking prommising & I am trailing a GA candidate.
Hopefully V3.0 should be a more stable release than V2.1 but I would still suggest waiting a couple of weeks unless it has features that are needed.
