I have installed Oracle database and I chose the Enterprise Edition option when installing. I did this incorrectly and meant to install the standard edition. How can I "downgrade" this installation from Enterprise to Standard without deleting and reinstalling it. Thanks.

Hellsing,

As far as you understand it, what is the difference between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition?

Hi thanks for the reply,
As I understand it, Enterprise Edition comes with extra functionality such as bitmap indexes and also allows extra bolt ons such as for clustering.

If I do a select * from v$version it comes back with Enterprise Edition and I don't want this. I need to "downgrade" this install so it comes back with Standard Edition. Thanks.

Hellsing,

I am not aware of a method to simply set (or unset) a parameter to disable Enterprise Edition, thus enabling Standard Edition. If you wish to "gear down" to Standard Edition, then here are the steps that I recommend:

1) Export the Oracle users' schemas that you want in the Standard database.
2) Uninstall Oracle Enterprise Edition.
3) Install Oracle Standard Edition.
4) Create a new, Standard Edition database.
5) Create the target users.
6) Import the dump files you created in Step 1, above.

Damn, I was hoping not to have to do that. Oh well, thanks for the advice Mufasa.

Hellsing,

Out of curiosity, do you have an Enterprise Edition license? If so, why go to the trouble of "unhooking" functionality? If not, then congratulations on your integrity![2thumbsup]

No I haven't got the licence. I'm an honest person .... bit of a rarity these days I know.
