I just downgraded from vista to xp And i had the system installed on a 30 gb drive. And had a 250 gb drive as a storage drive.I Installed xp on a new 30gb and when I hooked up the 250gb storage drive. Xp went through something like chkdsk before it started but it took a good hour and when xp finally loaded it said my 250 gb drive was 6gb big and all my files are there and most of my files are 0kb big.. How how I recover the partition? and bring it back to normal. Thanks.

How was this drive formatted? Did you use XP or Vista to format it & is it NTFS or FAT32.
Are you using SP2?

Well I got the drive brand new and it was in Vista OS. Was not the primary system drive only used as storage. I have not formated it since the very first time I got it. And it is NTFS. I dont know what happen it just shorten my partition to 6GB and some of my files are OK but most read 0kb..

you could try running checkdisk on the drive from the command line, as follows:
go to Start - Run & type cmd, hit return.
from the command prompt type chkdsk /r ?: (where ?: is the drive letter of your external drive)
This will check & repair faults on the drive.
Are you using SP2?

yes i am using sp2 I will try this and repost results..
