I am setting up a laptop of someone at work and I bought it off eBay. When it came in it had office XP installed on it. We don't own Office XP, so I uninstalled XP and installed Office 2000 (which we do own)

The install went fine up until it re-booted the computer now it is looking for DATA1.MSI to complete the installation. I have the CD in and it looks at the file and says that it is not a valid installation package.

I know that inherently MS products don't like to go backwards so I assume that is what this is.

Anyone know how to fix this??

Thanks

Matt

Hi there,

The easiest thing to do here is to do a complete installation of all the software (meaning a format :C). If you don't want to do this you could look at a regcleaner, to remove all the keys used by office XP, you will need to remove all office versions installed and then clean the registry.
But to be honest this could be a quit intens job, with no sure way to have succes.

Lett me know how this works out

With regards

Mike

Couldn't see doing a re-format. I Had too many apps setup on this thing.

Used regedit to search for "office". Went through and removed every entry in the registry that came up (about 500). This process took about 4 hours.

I then went through and removed all of the office files and directories in expolorer. I installed office 2000 in a new folder (not the default)and it all seems to have worked out fine.

Don't ya just love Microsoft?????

Thanks

Matt
