I see that Markztool 5 can be used for downsaving 6.0 to 4.1. Has anyone tried this?

I do realize we would be better to keep our catolog in 6 (it has already been printed from the 6 documents) but our sales department need it in 4. They use some of the pages for there own use and they don't plan on getting 6.0 anytime soon. Plus some people who sell our product need certain pages of our catolog . . . .

anywho, thanks.

I never used Markztool - -I know some people don't like saving down to a lower version - -I have heard stories where things drop off -- because extensions or plugins used in 6 are not supported in the lower versions.

I have not had a problem yet saving down to lower versions (knock on wood) I work in prepress and we have to save down to a lower version and work on a G4 to get the job out due to certain fonts - -the fonts don't like the new version of Suitcase.

Markxware's website says it only works up to Q5.

Your problem seems to be commonplace, as not too many people seem to have upgraded from Q4 to Q5.

If they just have to change some text, or print some pages, couldn't you pdf the thing and they could do the text edits in Acrobat?

Well I can still save it as V5 in Quark 6 and then open it in 4.1! What a pain!

I'm dealing with sales people here. They are already in a panic because not only will they be forced to learn Quark 6 but also OSX! Trying to ge them to use Acrobat . . . forget it!

We are going to InDesign soon. Boy will they love that.

Anymore Idea's, I'll listen!

Thanks

And I've looked into Marztools. It can open 5 & 6 docs in version 4.1.

The extention itself just doesn't work in Version 6, but thats ok because you would just use it in version 4

"MarkzTools 5.5 is an XTension that can be used to prevent corrupted QuarkXPress documents. MarkzTools 5.5 can also open Quark 6 documents in Quark 4.1-5.x, and save them as such. However, features that are only in QuarkXPress 6 can not be down-saved to Quark 4.1-5.x."

So as long as our pages doesn't use the special features of 6, we should be ok.

If you downsave to 5 and you don't have 5, how do you use markztool?

If you do have 5, it shouldn't be that bad downsaving to 5 and then to 4.

We didn't have any problems, with our office/business types, when we went from Mac 9 to OSX. I suspect we would have had some problems if it had been from Windows to OSX.

I found Indesign to be a breeze to pick up - but I was used to Illustrator. If they have to make some basic changes, all they have to know is how to click on the text tool.

Ok, I seem not to be able to communicate. Marztool 5 is an extention that goes into Quark 4.1. When it is in Quark 4.1 (not 5 or 6), you can open Quark 5 or 6 (not just 5 as someone posted above) documents and resave them as 4.1 (You don't need 5 or 6 to do this)

Now, I asked if anyone has tried this and that is all I need. I use Indesign and it is no big deal. I've got a sales department that needs to use out catalog pages, some even complete reworked (not just type changes) and they are the farthest thing away from designers there are who panic when we tell them we are upgrading software because they might have to learn something.

I just work for this company and it took over a years just to talk them into new G5's with Adobe CS and Quark 6.0 and there is no plans to update are sales team.

So please, if you have used Markztools to save down, I'd love to hear from you and it would be a big help. If you just want to leave a message without reading this whole email or if your gonna give me some advice about a appication you don't know about, please don't bother.

thanks

My post was supposed to go before your last post - before you found out about Using Markxtool. Unfortunately, I got an urgent job to spruce up some pics and send them to newspapers. I did that, went back to Safari and finished the post and submitted it. In the meantime, you had posted your latest.

Things got crossed

Sorry if I seemed rude. Bad morning. But I did mention Markztools at the very first post of this thread.

Thank for trying to help.

I'm gonna get Markztools and see if it does the job.

If it does work, it might be nice if you could post something about your experience. The 6 to 4 problem is a big headache for a lot of people.
