Dowloading a File As Opposed to Opening It 1

I would like to know how from within Front Page 2000 to set a link to a file that would "kick" in the Download Manager so the file would be downloaded as opposed to opened when clicked on. The file in question is a non-document file.

I dont know if there is a "correct" way to do this, but items I wish people to download, I just set up an ordinary link but using the words "please download this file - right click and "save target as..." I know there is javascript you can use for download, but havent jbeen able to find it.

What is the file extension?
If you use a zip or exe (self extracing zip), I believe the file will be downloaded.

If the file is readable, I think Frontpage will try to open it..
