We have 2 Bladecenters 8677 with a bunch of HS20 Blades.
In IBM Director, we monitor both the IBM Director Agent (level2) aswell as the Physical aspect of the blades: They appear as physical platforms because of the Bladecenters reporting them.. I assume.
We have currently not set up the BMC's on any of the Blade servers.
We have a reboot schedule that reboots all the blades around 3am every morning.
Tt seems that both the Bladecenter (Management Module), aswell as the IBM Director Agent object, is reporting the restart of the server, ( MPA.Component.Server.Power.Restart ) , I get 2 alerts, one from the Agent object, and one from the Physical platform object, both are identical expect for the system name, which differs in our naming policy.
This is odd, as I remember reading that IBM Director 5.10 agent does not forward MPA alerts anymore, that they are only send directly by Hardware like BMC, or in this case, I assume, the Bladecenter MM.
I also have a large amount of X-series servers with BMC's also configured for both the Agent aswell as the physical platform, but with them I only get 1 alert. So this problem seems to be related to the Blades only.
Another odd point, is that at the time of a restart, the Windows Agent on the server itself is actually offline of course, yet I get both alerts simultaniously. That probably means its not the actual agent on the server creating the event, but its being routed inside IBM Director server, and appearing to also come from the Agent object.
Perhaps I am missing some aspect of how MPA alerts are forwarded by the Bladecenter MM. Or the way objects are associated to eachother in IBM Director.
