I'm using outlook express and on occation I get double mail. someone sends me something and it's doubled in my inbox. I have to delete the duplicate everytime.
I am having the same problem. I am geting the same e-mail two or three times. There seems to be no logical pattern as to who I receive the multiple e-mails from. I have read on another website that the problem may be with the ISP. However, my IPS claim it is not their fault. (They would though, wouldn't they?). I have also been advised that this may be caused by spyware and that I should run Adaware and HiJack-This. I will try this as a last resort, although I am not that convinced.
I have the same problem, especially when downloading lot of emails from server. Looks like download process somehow does not go successfully to the end, so emails not getting deleted from the server, which is the last stage in receiveing the mail. So next time you connect to the server you get the same messages downloaded again.
I have another question: is anyone aware of the way to automatically delete those dupes from the Outlook?
Thanks.
This doesn't matter. There's an option in each account (advanced tab) to leave a copy of the message on the server so it doesn't matter regardless of whethter OE successfully downloads all the e-mails or not. There's a file in your mailstore called pop3uidl.dbx which keeps an index of what e-mails you've downloaded for each account. It may have become corrupt. I think if you delete this file it may solve your problem. However, if the server still has a copy of the e-mails you already downloaded (ie if you have the above setting switched on) then it will download all these e-mails again.
To delete the file, click Tools > Options > Maintenance and click the Store Folder button. You'll see the path to your mailstore here. Copy it and then click start > run and past it in there to navigate to your mailstore. Then close OE and delete the pop3uidl.dbx file. Hopefully this will solve your problem.
Regarding remove the duplicate mails - I haven't found a way yet - unless all the e-mails have something in common which you could search for them with. I think there's a 3rd party utility for Outlook but I haven't heard of one for OE.
