When I double-click an action in the Actions pane, nothing happens. I understand some other menus are supposed to pop up where I can specify the parameters of the action I've specified.

Doesn't the action appear on the righthand side of the Frame Actions' window?
Also check that you're not in expert mode as opposed to normal mode, by clicking on the side arrow of the top right corner, of the Frame Actions' window.

;-)

Yes, I'm in "Nornal Mode." But when I double-click an action item, nothing appears in the right pane - or anywhere else. The instructions say that a popup menu is supposed to display where I can enter the parameters or other instructions for the action. But nothing at all happens when I double-click an action item. I've tried double-clicking several action items, but still nothing happens.

Allways been like that?
Suppose you open some other .fla with actions like under Help->Samples->Mosquito Killer & double-click on one keyframe of the actions layer... Do you see actions on the right side?

;-)

What you say is true. But that's not what I'm doing. I'm in "Object Actions." I'm trying to apply an action to a button.

What am I doing wrong? The instructions say to double-click the action that I want to apply. That's what I'm doing - with no results.

I know that's not what you're trying to do!
All I'm saying is that if you can see actions in the Mosquito .fla... What happens if you double-click on an action then? Does it appear on the right side? If it does, means there's something else you're doing wrong in your fla.
Just trying to see if Flash is correctly installed!

;-)

I finally discovered what I was doing wrong. I thought I had the object selected, but I didn't. When I selected the object I wanted to apply an action to, then everything worked as expected. Thanks for the help.
