double click doesn't open a xls file 1

I can not open an existing good xls file with double clicking on it.by doing that just excel it self opens, if i want to view a file named mine.xls, i have to go File--> Open and then select the file, it is not possible by double clicking, and if i right click on the file and select Open With --. again unsuccesfull , but i get this error message "Windows cannot find d:\test\mine.xls.make sure you typed the name correctly........"

any idea is appreciated.
