How can i speed up Printing access reports in a dot matrix printer?

What font will i'm going to use?

your help will be appreciated.

zamm

Zamm,

Not sure you can speed up printing using a dot matrix report FROM within ACCESS. What you might be able to do is to use Windows more effectively to "SPOOL" the reports to the printer, so that the printing process occurs independently, and does not hold up Access.

To do this, you will need to check out your Printer properties in Print Manager in Control Panel.

Hope that this helps,
Cheers,
Steve

Dear Zamm,
Steve is right about the spooling aspect, but further to your choice of fonts, it will save the printer interpreting the font that you have used in Access, if you use a font that the printer 'natively' uses (i.e. is installed on the printer).
To find this out, use the handbook for the printer.
Plus don't apply any formatting if you can avoid it and certainly do not use any vertical lines on the page.

Regards Jim

Add a "Generic / Text Only" printer to your workstation. You can name the printer something meaningful, if you like. (The same name must be used on other workstations if you distribute the DB.) Open the Properties for the new printer and select the "Fonts" tab. You can then enter the printer control codes for various font widths and appearances appropriate to your specific printer (Epson, Okidata, etc.). (Use the "Esc" key to enter the <ESC> code.)

Then, in Access, design your report with that "Generic / Text Only" printer selected. Select the fields on your report, either singly or in groups, and change their "Font Name" and "Font Size" properties. The font names will be the names of dot matrix fonts embedded in the printer, e.g., "Roman 10cpi." The font sizes will correspond to "characters per inch", e.g., 10, 12, or 17.

Remove any graphics from the report, e.g., lines, boxes.

Save your report and try printing it. See if you get the speed improvement you're looking for.
