DOSX.exe error

I have a networked Compaq Evo 300 running Windows 2000 Pro,
I am trying to setup a Seiko Label printer, when I insert the CD-ROM to install the software I get the error;
" SYSTEM ERROR
The win16 subsystem was unable to enter protected mode,
dosx.exe must be in your autoexec.net and present in your path"

Dosx.exe is in C:\Windows\system32

Autoexec.nt is in the same folder, it contains the lines;
c:\windows\system32\dosx.exe
path=C:\Windows\system32

has anybody else come across this error message?

Yes, I get the same error message every time I restart, and when I try to install a new program.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
