Hi

I am running windows XP Pro SP2. When I open the dos prompt in the normal "small" window everything is ok. However when I press alt+enter to maximize the window the text only starts at the bottom of the dos prompt; the upper part is black but I can only start typing at the bottom of the DOS window.

We still run few dos applications in maximized windows, you understand when the text only starts at the bottom of the window you cannot see the rest of the program.

Does anybody now how to reset dos prompt settings in windows XP or how to solve the above?

Any input is welcome.

Regards

H

It sounds like your display is not handling whatever refresh rate the fullscreen command prompt is running at. To see if this is true, at the command prompt enter COLOR 2f This will change the background to green and foreground to white. Then when going into fullscreen, any remaining black will be where the display is not showing the DOS screen. Perhaps adjusting the monitor's vertical sizing and/or positioning controls would help?

Anything happen if you try the clear screen command "cls"?

Hi Linney

Cls gives the same result, text in dos screen still starts at lower part of the window.

Freestone,

Adjusting the screen does not help neither. Wndows is running ok, screen is fine, it is only when using DOS in max window.

I will change color in the dos box and check if their are black remaining regions, thanks for the input.

By increasing the screen buffer size to 999, you enable scrolling through the Command Prompt window".

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?). What about a different user in Normal Mode?

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
