Hello,

I need to know what commands I should use in DOS environment
in order to print documents....What I need is to write a script to be able to print only certain pages of a document. My final objective is to be able to print both sides of the sheets taking advantage of the HPLJ4000's ability to print 2 or 4 pages in one. I've been reading on the net stuff like "net use" or "lpq", but I haven't been able to figure it out.

Any suggestions?

P.S. I know you can buy a little plastic bin to install in the back of the printer which allows to print both sides of the sheet, but I want solve the problem via a dos script.

In order to control print output (from DOS or Windows or anything else), you have to either interface with an existing driver (if there is one) or emulate what that driver would do (i.e. generate a print stream in the chosen Page Description Language (PDL) which the printer supports (e.g. PCL5, PCL6 (aka PCL XL), Postscript)).

I've no idea if there ARE any drivers which DOS applications can use; the alternative, to generate your own print stream, has a steep learning curve, because the PDLs have quite large and complicated command sets.

The following link provides a brief history of the PCL language, and links to the PCL Technical Reference manual, and also to other PCL5 & PJL manuals:

Note that the referenced PDF manuals are quite large downloads (adding up to about 40MB in total).
