This is a really simple question but I've searched high up and low down and still can't find the answer!!!!! I want to edit the DOS Path on my NT 4 Workstation (I'm guessing it would be done the same way on NT Server). I just found out recently that the path isn't contained in the AutoExec.bat but rather in the AutoExec.nt file which is in winnt/system32 - however, when I went to edit the autoexec.nt file, there's no path command in there - so where else it be? I installed a perl interpreter recently and during installation, the path was updated to include the location of the interpreter (wasn't done manually). I need to edit it now again for a compiler that I've installed - this time I need to do it manually.

Any ideas where I can edit it from then?

Thanks

The path statment can be edited by going into system properties (right click my computer and go to properties) Then click the environment tab and the path statment it a variable in there.

Hope this helps

Thanks... but out of curiosity... where can I edit it "manually"? I know that it's done manullay in the way you said but I think you know what I mean?

Thnaks again

Type 'path' at a command prompt ('help path' for how to use)

NT4 has 2 paths! A "System" path, and a "User" path. They are combined together when you log in.

As People2 said, under "System Properties" you can see both (one at top, one at bottom).

I believe that the "path" statement sets it for the user only, not the system, so it won't take affect for other people.

To change the System path, change the following reg value...
"HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment\Path" Cheers,
Sam
