DOS ...from Windows XP

I work on Windows XP SP2 station

For the installation purposes I need to Open DOS prompt & get the root of C: drive

I tried to type DOS under Start / Run but I failed .How can I do it?

Type "cmd" (without the quotes), into the start/run box.
