I have an extensive application written in Visual Foxpro 3.0 which calls a couple of DOS routines (WZZIP.exe and WCL_FTP.exe for ZIPping and FTPing files respectively) using the RUN/! command. I'd like to upgrade to VFP7, and I would imagine 'upgrading' to Windows XP is inevitable too.

1. Does the RUN command function identically in VFP7?
2. Will the RUN command function in XP?
3. If not, is there an alternative way of ZIPping and FTPing files under either of the above?

1. Yes (at least under NT 4.0)
2. Probably - at least for most Windows apps, some DOS apps may not.
3. Yes. One I use now is the PROCESS class available from the UT. Go to , and then in Search enter Process, and you'll want to get the "API_APPRUN in .VCX form". This gives you much more flexibility in firing up "external" tasks - like waiting for them to be completed.

Further to Rick's note on item #2, the answer is YES. I've been using VFP7 and WinXP for several weeks now, and have many similar types of calls. No problems to date.
Thanks,
-Scott
